After a short hiatus, C-Hawk Boats is back in business under enthusiastic new ownership and veteran management at its plant in Bailey, N.C. This long-time builder of sturdy fiberglass, fishing and utility boats continues to offer tough, no-nonsense hulls laminated by experienced crews. The 23 Special is a new take on a 23-foot hull with classic sheer line, moderate flare and a sharp bow entry, tapering to 14 degrees of deadrise at the transom. Despite the Carolina factory location, her design comes from noted workboat designer Robert Meekins, of Golden Hill on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The 23 Special configuration includes an outboard bracket, full transom with fishbox, trim tabs, a leaning post (livewell optional), a raw-water washdown pump, a colored hull, flush-mount cleats and bow light, and a T-top with electronics box.

Though dealers can rig her with a range of 150- to 225-hp outboards, C-Hawk offers her with a 150-hp Suzuki and a Road King aluminum tandem trailer for $39,995. C-Hawk Boats, Bailey, N.C. 252-235-2461;
