Carolina Cat’s new 23CC comes from the PowerCat Group, a large North Carolina boatbuilder that also produces the time-tested larger World Cat and Glacier Bay boats and the smaller Livingstons. The Carolina Cats ride on planing hulls that give them excellent speed with modest power, while retaining the naturally soft ride that two narrow hulls provide. The company introduced the 23CC (center-console) last winter and will follow it with a 23DC (dual-console) later this fall.

During the summer, a 23CC with twin Yamaha 115 outboards made the run from Florida to Bimini in company with several of her larger PowerCat sisters, demonstrating her seaworthiness and strength. That run also demonstrates the overall catamaran savvy of the PowerCat Group, which builds the Carolina Cat with modern, high-strength composite materials. The lamination crews bond the whole boat together with a foam-filled fiberglass structural stringer grid designed to absorb the powerful twisting forces inherent in running twin hulls at speed through heavy seas.

The 23CC offers bow and stern casting decks, with storage and twin fishboxes forward and a pair of flip-up seats aft, along with a 30-gallon livewell. The console offers space for flush-mounting a 12-inch electronics display. A T-top is optional. The dual-console model (23DC) will offer a helm to starboard, with a head in the port console that will offer near standing headroom in the port hull. This model should be a very good family boat that will still fish well.

List price for a Carolina Cat 23CC with twin 115-hp Yamaha four-strokes is $64,532. The current estimate for the 23DC is an additional $3,000. PowerCat Group, Tarboro, N.C. 425-508-1355; www.carolinacatboats.com.
