A bowrider with a cedar-lined hanging locker? What’s going on here? Well, Chaparral’s 327 SSX has a full-beam cabin with an L-shaped lounge that converts to a double bunk, a galley with (optional) microwave, an enclosed head with shower—and that hanging locker. The cabin design, which takes innovative advantage of the hull’s generously deep deadrise and large consoles port and starboard, actually has a patent pending.

True to her breed, though, the 327 SSX is a well-appointed, well-built sport boat, the largest in Chaparral’s SSX line. From bow to swim platform, she boasts three coolers and stereo switches, cavernous storage for everything from clothing and tow toys to SCUBA gear, and seating for a dozen or more. Power comes from a pair of dual-propeller, 300- to 430-hp gas V8 inboard/outboard engines (MerCruiser or Volvo) for cruising speeds in the 30s and beyond. The boat’s size and deep deadrise make her capable and safe in open waters, while her “extended V-plane” hull helps her accelerate with minimum bow rise and run efficiently at speeds in the teens when towing inflatables. A standard hardtop shields the double-wide helm and companion seats, as well as the forward end of the L-shaped cockpit lounge. The center section of the lounge and the aft-facing seat behind it convert to a sun lounge. A wet bar behind the helm seat is optional, as is a gas grill on the swim platform.

The base price with twin 300-hp Mercury V8 5.7L 350 Mag DTS (Catalyst) gas engines and Bravo 3 dual-prop outdrives is $209,932. Chaparral Boats, Nashville, Ga., 229-686-7481,
