One way to judge a boat’s quality is to look at how the builder gradually improves bread-and-butter basic models over time. The new 2100 from Regal Boats is a case in point, far beyond basic. It rides on Regal’s proprietary 21-foot FasTrac ventilated hull, constructed with the company’s LifeCore composite engineering system, which focuses material strength on primary stress points. The manufacturing process runs according to ISO standards, which Regal has adhered to since 2001. That hull, protected from blisters with a vinylester skin coat, comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

All of the company’s boats are built to NMMA, ABYC and USCG standards, as well as the European CE standards, and Regal is a consistent winner of customer satisfaction awards from NMMA and JD Power & Associates. Consider individual standard features: an automatic fire suppression system in the engine compartment, Deutsch connectors throughout the 2100’s robust, standardized wiring harness, and a battery switch. Functional options include a dual-battery system.

As for performance and fun on the water, the 2100 offers a large cockpit, a sunpad with generous swim platform, lounge seats in the bow, massive storage space, including a specific compartment for a carry-on 25-quart cooler, and a six-speaker Fusion stereo system. Options include an air compressor for inflating tow toys and an electrically articulated towing arch. Suggested retail is $52,493 for a 2100 with a Volvo V-8 300SX catalyst inboard-outboard. That clean, modern engine will provide a top speed in the upper 40s with most efficient cruising from the mid-20s to the low 30s. Regal Boats, Orlando, Fla. 800-US-REGAL; www.regalboats.com.
