Rossiter Boats are coming to the Chesapeake! Well known in Ontario, New England and Florida but previously not here, the company builds an interesting combination of 14- to 23-foot powerboats and lovely 10- to 17-foot rowing boats. The newest offering is the R23 day boat. The R23 features a 22-degree variable deadrise on an all-composite hull. During a recent sea trial, the R23 jumped on plane quickly with little to no bow rise. Rigged with Yamaha’s new 200 XCA, the boat planed at 15 mph and delivered a top speed around 43 mph. At 20 mph in flat-calm conditions, fuel consumption was 3.7 gallons per hour; at 30 mph, 7 gallons.

The R23 is a big, seaworthy runabout in the classic sense. It features comfortable seating for up to 10 passengers, plus ample dry storage. The helm offers an adjustable, double-wide seat with a flip-up bolster so the helmsman can drive comfortably while standing or seated. The forward cabin contains a plumbed head (standard), along with more storage space and a large overhead hatch for air and sunlight. The integrated swim deck with boarding ladder makes it easy to get into and out of the water, while the transom door provides access to the cockpit. The R23 can serve a water-loving family for fishing, waterskiing, tubing, picnicking and all-around exploring, while its draft of 16 inches allows access to skinny water. Options include an anchor windlass, a Bimini or full convertible top, windshield wipers, pop-up ski tow, rod holders, stereo, 50-quart removable cooler and a flush-mount GPS.

Base price for the Rossiter R23 with a 200-hp Yamaha XCA outboard is $68,995. Rossiter expects to choose a dealer on the Bay by early fall. Check their website for a dealer location. www.rossiterboats.com.
