Five young sailors from the Chesapeake Bay Optimist Team have qualified to represent the Bay in international competition this year. As the team’s top finisher (11th overall) in the U.S. Optimist Team Trials, Evan Aras from the Annapolis Yacht Club qualified for the European Championships in Portugal this summer. Four others earned the right to compete in the North American Championships in Bermuda: Morgan Wilson and Manton Paine (Severn Sailing Association), and Alan Campbell and Sara Morgan Watters (Tred Avon Yacht Club). Campbell and Wilson also raced their prams in the International Easter Regatta in the Netherlands, where the United States competed for the first time. Campbell led the seven-member U.S. team by finishing fourth overall in the gold fleet.
