Boat Club Cover Up

MTOA members don disguises for their annual Halloween cruise.

Not just for trawlers anymore, the Chesapeake chapter of the MTOA (formerly the Marine Trader Owners Association) has opened its membership to anyone interested in the cruising life. From the looks of their recent Halloween gathering, their recruiting has attracted some interesting characters. Who knew that Father Time was a boater? Or that the Devil preferred a quiet night on the hook to sportfishing? At least, these two were among the attendees of the costume party aboard Cindi Lou, owned by Cindy and Al Gellene. Pat and Ed Meisner, of Riva, Md., took home the prize for the most outrageous costumes, but we think Dave and Liz Weinstein, of Oxford, Md., should get the honors for the most creative: They arrived wearing masks made of old invoices, representing, they said, “the overburdened boatowner, covered in boat bills.” To learn more about the MTOA and their antics, go to and click the Chesapeake button under regional activities.
