Issue: July 2010
BYPOINTS: The Bonehead Factor

Let's get this out of the way up front: I am a bonehead. Last month in this space, you may recall, I called your attention to the results of our 2010 Best of the Bay survey, which were published for all the world to see in that same issue and on our website. You may further recall my boasting/whining that the job of tallying those results had fallen to me this year.

Well, that's where the bonehead part comes in. No, it wasn't a math error, which had been my chief concern going into it. It was, in fact, a keeping-track-of-the-categories error--my error and mine alone, mind you. And the result was that the winners in the Best Restaurant for Breakfast category were labeled as winners of the Best Restaurant for Crabcakes category; and, worse still, the best-crabcake winners were not listed at all. I sincerely apologize, and will take the time here to set the record straight:

The winners of this year's Best Restaurant for Crabcakes are, in order of votes received:
Cantler's Riverside Inn, Annapolis, Md.
Stoney's, Solomons and Broomes Island, Md.
Waterman's Crab House, Rock Hall, Md.
The Crab Claw, St. Michaels, Md.
Smithfield Station, Smithfield, Va.
Surf Rider, Hampton, Va.
Signals/Skipjack Cove, Georgetown, Md.
The Narrows, Kent Narrows
Kentmorr Restaurant, Kent Island
Skipper's Pier, Deale, Md.

Winners of this year's Best Restaurant for Breakfast are, in order of votes received:
Chick & Ruth's, Annapolis, Md.
Smithfield Station, Smithfield, Va.
Annie's Paramount Steakhouse, Kent Narrows
Skipper's Pier, Deale, Md.
The Captain's Table, Solomons, Md.
Ken's Back Porch Cafe, Annapolis, Md.
Muskrat Alley, Rock Hall, Md.
The Inn at Pirates Cove, Galesville, Md.
Boatyard Bar & Grill, Annapolis, Md.

Again, my apologies for the error. In all seriousness, we do recognize the importance and business value of Best of the Bay honors and will do our best in the future to prevent the recurrence of this kind of mistake. We have corrected the listings on our website, and have also included a downloadable PDF of a corrected print version of the listing that appeared in the June issue.
