Chesapeake Bay Magazine's Talk of the Bay

Summers come and summers go, but we’re not ready to let go of this one quite yet! So much Bay to discover out there and only 30 September days! Hard as it may be for you and us to believe, the September 2013 issue of Chesapeake Bay Magazine is in fact on its way to newstands and subscribers now. Look for managing editor Ann Levelle’s story on the two distinct faces (north and south) of Herring Bay, Wendy Mitman Clarke’s take on Kennersley Point Marina off the Chester River (Yes, Wendy’s back! Look for a feature story from her next month!), and George Carrigan’s Cruise of the Month on a charmed and charming visit to Tangier Island, under the care of its “unofficial goodwill ambassador,” Milton Parks. Other features include a side-by-side comparison—a tale of the tape, as it were—of the Bay’s two powerhouse ports, Baltimore and Hampton Roads; and writer Larry Chowning’s walk down memory lane with 81-year-old Duck Ruark of Deltaville, Va., who still remembers the days of cargo schooners on the Bay, his own family’s Maggie in particular.

If you need more inspiration for the last couple of months of Bay adventures, allow us to suggest a bit of online rummaging. Just go to the front page of our website, ChesapeakeBoating.net, and click on “Quick Cruises” to browse through our archive of Cruise of the Month articles, organized by state. In addition to this month’s Tangier article, the most recent archived cruises of the month include last year’s cruises to Maryland’s Corsica River, off the Chester; Virginia’s Mobjack Bay; the Captain Salem Avery House on Maryland’s West River; Virginia’s Little Wicomico River; Port Deposit, Md.; and good ol’ Calvert Cliffs (which includes detailed information on access points and places stay while your fossil hunting). See you on the Bay!
